&Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp
Lodge style Gentle as a water lily
Generous, kind and passionate
Imagine arriving by boat to a wooden jetty to find the complete staff lined up against a background of bright green delta grass, high reeds and ancient trees. While they are singing, clapping and dancing, fresh drinks and warm towels are offered. Welcome to Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp, located on the edge of the permanent Okavango Delta in an exclusive 25,000 hectare wildlife concession, south-east of Moremi Game Reserve. Set on its own delta island, Xaranna boasts solitude and sweeping views over the vast floodplains and permanent channels. Inspired by the serene floating water lilies – which the delta waterways are riddled with - the camp is softly decorated with shades of lily pink, fresh green and khaki. While the interior reflects the colours of the Delta, the staff will pamper you with some genuine African hospitality. The management is very customer-oriented, making sure you – and younger safari explorers that travel along – get the best possible experience while learning, discovering, laughing and enjoying every minute. This is where you come for amazing wildlife viewing in a warm, magical setting (topped off with the best homemade pastries and wholesome food).
Xaranna Camp has just nine en-suite safari tents: a combination of canvas and bleached timber, delicately decorated with contemporary, light furniture. The tents are organic in design and tucked away in Delta trees, bringing you a bird orchestra every morning. Each tent boasts four-poster beds, air-conditioning, hairdryer, an indoor bathtub, outdoor shower, private plunge pool and a romantic sala. This comfortable sofa is the perfect spot for sipping your morning coffee or afternoon cocktail with breathtaking views into the surrounding channels. In keeping with the gentle geography of the Okavango Delta, the overall atmosphere of the camp is cool, light and airy. There is an intimate lounge, dining area with shady verandah and an open air boma for candlelit dinners under the stars. Wherever you nestle yourself down, all the comfortably furnished guest areas are carefully positioned to maximise the sweeping channel views. A well-stocked safari shop offers locally made jewellery, African bathroom amenities and many more gems to take home.
Activities at &Beyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp
A day at Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp starts with a gentle wake up call, the smell of fresh tea or coffee and some time to discuss with your guide what you would like to see. Then, venture out for the morning game drive, in search of rhinos, lions, leopards, wild dog, giraffes and many more. Here, game drives are a tranquil experience since the camp is located in a private concession with few vehicles sharing the area. When you return, a delicious breakfast awaits, consisting of fruit, cheese, eggs your way, fresh waffles… If you feel like squeezing in some physical activity after this yummy meal, there is the option to go on a guided walk around the camp. Lunch and high tea (with the best homemade cookies) follows in the afternoon, and then it is time for the activity that makes a Delta safari so unique: a mokoro excursion or boat ride (depending on rainfall levels ). Float gently along lively, clear channels, or discover the widespread Okavango Delta by motorised boat. Hippos, frogs, crocodiles, and dozens of bird species – you will come eye to eye with all wildlife in and around the river. When you return back to your temporary safari home, the staff prepares dinner under the stars, accompanied by a crackling fire – giving you an everlasting warm place in your heart for Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp.

Tripadvisor comments Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp
This was our second visit to Xaranna and we had another amazing visit. There was more water in the delta than when we visited 2 years ago and we saw tons of wildlife. The highlight of our trip was reuniting with our favorite guide, Max, and getting to see the baby Rhino that was recently born on the concession. The andBeyond camps and their staff are by far the best!

We've visited many AndBeyond properties in Tanzania, South Africa and now Botswana and this is at the top of our list. The experience, staff and game viewing is spectacular (June 2014). The stars aligned and we had the best African Wild/Painted Dog viewing of our life as we tracked the dogs two nights in a row and watched them battle hyenas for their kill. Xaranna is simply heaven!
