DAY 1
Fly overnight from London via Nairobi to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

DAYS 2 to 4
You will be driven across town to Arusha airport for a short flight to RUAHA NATIONAL PARK where your safari begins. In one of Tanzania's lesser visited parks, we have chosen Mwagusi Safari Camp, our favourite in the area with very good guiding. Each spacious tent is set on its own wooden platform under a huge thatch roof in a private location on the riverbank. Dry for most for the year, the river bed is a route frequently used by the game which is found in this lovely park. The dining room and bar are cool and airy and there is a comfortable reading banda.
Known for its large elephant and buffalo herds, Ruaha National Park is also a great place to see both greater and lesser kudu as well as the majestic sable and roan antelope. Predators include lion, leopard and cheetah and it is home to the African hunting dog, otherwise known as wild or painted dog.

DAYS 5 to 8
Fly on to KATAVI NATIONAL PARK, miles from anywhere and reputedly with a greater density of mammals than any other Tanzanian reserve. Game viewing is by vehicle and on foot and overnight fly camping can be arranged with mouth-watering bush cuisine, piping hot water from a bucket shower and your bed unrolled under mosquito nets below borassus palms.
At tented Chada Katavi, every comfort awaits you with fine wooden furniture, woven rugs and beds spread with crisp white Egyptian cottons. The mess tent is lit with candles and lanterns at night and you will be served fine wines to accompany a delicious dinner.

DAYS 9 to 11
There are no roads within 100 kms of Greystoke Mahale so the only way in is by light aircraft and then by dhow from the airstrip. As you arrive, the huge thatched roof of the bar and mess area are visible against the deep green of the forested slopes of the MAHALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK and the white sandy beach. Your open-fronted ‘banda’ is set back amongst the palms with an upstairs chill-out deck looking out to the lake. The design of the whole camp is most imaginative.
The length of time it takes to find the chimpanzees varies with their movements but any effort required is fully rewarded by the hour spent in their presence, watching their daily life of grooming, wrestling, bickering, foraging, eating, and mothering. Be sure to show respect to the alpha male!
Back on the beach, go fishing or kayaking along the lake shore, swim in the beautifully clear waters and enjoy the peacefulness of this amazing setting.

DAY 12
Fly home via Kilimanjaro and overnight from Nairobi
