DAYS 2 to 4
The feeling of exclusivity makes Joy's Camp the perfect start to a wonderful safari. Built on the site of Joy Adamson's tented home in SHABA NATIONAL PARK, this elegant camp has outstanding views of the surrounding hills and also looks over a large marsh fed by a spring where elephant and lion are often seen. Each sumptuous tent is uniquely decorated with Boran/Somali cloth, handmade glass and the vibrant fabric of the local nomadic tribes.
Professional Samburu guides will lead you to find species of game not found further south including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, oryx and gerunuk - the amusing long-necked antelope.
DAYS 5 to 7
Next you will fly to the LAIKIPIA PLATEAU where Andrew and Chyulu Francombe will welcome you to their beautiful home, Ol Malo, with its vast views of Africa. A waterhole just below the lodge attracts a variety of animals.
Game drives, walks, horse and camel treks and Samburu cultural visits are on offer. The Laikipia District is in the forefront of wildlife conservation and boasts the second largest elephant population in Kenya and has several rhino sanctuaries.
DAYS 8 to 10
Fly on into the heart of the MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE where your base will be Rekero, a luxury camp with accommodation in spacious safari tents overlooking the Talek river. The Maasai guides are not only knowledgable but also fascinating when describing their warrior culture and the conflict between their traditions and modern Kenya.
The camp is perfectly located for experiencing the annual spectacle of the migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles as they plunge across the crocodile infested river.
DAYS 11 to 13
The combination of culture, white sand and azure sea to be found on the SWAHILI COAST provides the perfect location in which to 'chill' after your time in the African bush.
South of Mombasa at GALU BEACH, Kinondo Kwetu is owned and run by a charming Swedish couple who welcome guests to their home. The accommodation is in a variety of charming cottages set in the shady garden where there is also a magnificent swimming pool and is just a few steps from the white sand beach.
Activities include scuba diving, snorkelling, fishing, massage and beauty treatments. Some beautiful horses are stabled on the property so there is fun riding on the beach and in the forest behind.
By road to Mombasa and then fly via Nairobi overnight to London
The MATTHEWS MOUNTAIN RANGE is a chain of peaks covered with a dense, dewy forest. In a remote valley, Kitiche Camp overlooks a river glade and, with only six tents, offers complete privacy. Activities are all on foot in the company of experienced Samburu and Ndorobo guides who are familiar with the many forest paths and who lead guests in search of elephant, leopard, bushbuck and buffalo.
