Your adventure begins the moment your guide meets you at the airport and drives you through Uganda’s rolling green hills to the charming LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK, an extension of the Tanzania plains with herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates.
A comfortable night under canvas and thatch await you at the peaceful Mihingo Lodge where the ten tented rooms have been carefully placed for seclusion, some to give 360° views over the plains, others in a forest setting or with views of Lake Mburo.
DAYS 3 and 4
Head off through the highlands to Kabale with views of the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo, to the rainforest of BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST, best known as the home of several families of mountain gorilla. The bird life and primates in Bwindi are quite superb and there is an incredible diversity of flora. Your base for the gorilla trek will be the comfortable Buhoma Lodge where your beautifully appointed room has a verandah with views of the forest.
The trek to find the gorillas normally takes about two hours and does require a degree of fitness due to fairly steep, muddy paths. You will be going deep into the rainforest passing beneath tree ferns and orchids and climbing over roots and around vines. Afterwards, piping hot showers, a fireplace to provide warmth in the cool evenings, and a large comfortable bed will ensure a good night’s rest after a tiring but very rewarding day’s trek.
DAYS 5 and 6
Drive north to QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK where you will spend the next two nights at Katara Lodge on the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The seven thatched cottages have uninterrupted views of the savannah, Lake Edward and the Virunga and Rwenzori mountain ranges beyond.
This park owes its great variety of game to the diverse ecosystems and there is the possibility of seeing a tree-climbing lion draped from a low-limbed fig tree. You can trek to find chimpanzees, take a boat trip along the channel and visit the huge cave which is home to bats and a python.
DAYS 7 and 8
A scenic drive out of the park, continue on through the Rift Valley to SEMLIKI WILDLIFE RESERVE where, in a private concession, the beautiful Semliki Safari Lodge is located. In this area there is prolific birdlife with a good chance of seeing the rare shoebill stork as well as finding chimpanzees. Nearby Lake Albert also offers very exciting fishing for both expert and novice anglers.
Set off early towards KAMPALA and overnight at the lovely Emin Pasha before your flight home.
Transfer to Entebbe airport and direct day flight to London
Spend a second day in the BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST walking easier trails, maybe along the Munyaga or Ivi rivers which are recommended for bird watchers or other hill trails which will afford rewarding views or take you to waterfalls.
An itinerary could also include MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK, the largest game park in the country, which boasts forest, swamp and open grasslands as well as the narrow cleft through which the Victoria Nile forces its course and cascades spectacularly down.

For those who wish to get off the beaten track and yet see fantastic game: trek to see mountain gorillas in the Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda before game viewing in the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania
