DAYS 2 to 4
KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, synonymous in many people's minds with game viewing in southern Africa, now has an infrastructure that is too well developed for us to describe it as a true wilderness. Thus we have selected two privately owned lodges in huge areas of bushveld with prolific wild life shared by a limited number of visitors!
First to Garonga in the greater MAKALALI CONSERVANCY situated west of the Kruger. Bernie, the charming host, welcomes guests to his delightful lodge and provides an unrivalled holistic wildlife experience. Activities include game drives, wilderness walks, sleep-outs, outdoor bush-baths and aromatherapy and reflexology sessions.
The light and airy tented rooms are situated overlooking a dry riverbed frequented by game, each with a wooden deck complete with hammock.

DAYS 5 to 7
Nottens Bush Camp, in the SABI SANDS GAME RESERVE to the south, is run by the Notten family and has been a firm favourite of ours for many years. It has accommodation in elegantly styled suites and offers a warm welcome combined with very professional guiding. Animals are attracted year round to the water of the Sabi river making game viewing, in traditional safari vehicles by day and after dark and also on foot, very rewarding.
The camp has a magical rustic atmosphere which is enhanced by the use of candlelight and lanterns. Gilly's fine cuisine, the inviting pool, a wonderful massage at Nature’s Spa and starry nights around the log fire all add to the pleasure of your stay.

DAYS 8 to 10
After a thrilling time in the bush, you will fly to CAPE TOWN where you can unwind at the Steenberg Hotel - a charming property in the heart of a working vineyard in Constantia – just 20 minutes from the town centre. The traditional buildings date back to 1680 but now offer a stay in refined luxury. The delightful rooms face on to immaculate gardens and the restaurants are renowned in the area.
From here you can explore the Cape Peninsula and the city, or stay closer to base and enjoy the gentle scenery and outstanding food and wine. A hire car will be delivered to you.

DAYS 11 and 12
No itinerary for South Africa is complete without a visit to the WINE REGION to admire the charming Cape Dutch architecture of the vineyards and, perhaps, to enjoy the product of the vines!
Fifty minutes away and in the attractive historic university town of STELLENBOSCH, River Manor Boutique Hotel and Spa is a beautifully restored retreat nestling ancient oak trees beside a river. It is an ideal base for exploring the renowned Winelands.

DAYS 13 and 14
Auberge Burgundy, set above the picturesque Old Harbour in the historic heart of HERMANUS, is a charming Provençal-style guesthouse with courtyards, terraces and delightful balconies – some with lovely sea views. By air or by boat, this is an ideal spot for whale spotting between June and December – in fact, they are often so close to land as to be easily watched from the shore. Year round there is much to keep everyone occupied with sea kayaking, horse riding and walking amongst the fynbos in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve all easily available

DAYS 15 to 17
With an early start you can take the back road via Oudsthoorn which is far more scenic than the rather hectic highway. You rejoin the N2 at George and then drive on to Kurland, a beautiful polo estate and a real sanctuary just outside PLETTENBERG BAY.
With the activities in and around Knysna and the Tsitsikamma Reserve all within easy reach, this is a good location in which to complete a holiday to remember. There are beautiful forest and coastal walks to be taken, you can picnic in spectacular spots and fish in the lagoons, laze on the beach and even enjoy some adrenaline pumping activites including bungy jumping and sea kayaking. Golfers will be bowled over by the quality and number of courses open to them and dolphins surfing the waves off the beautiful beaches of Plettenberg and Natures Valley will be just one of many delightful images to take home.

DAY 18
Drive to Port Elizabeth to drop off the hire car. Fly via Johannesburg overnight to London
