DAYS 1 to 3
Fly from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth airport. Having collected the hire car, the drive to LALIBELA GAME RESERVE takes about an hour.
Lalibela Tree Tops Safari Lodge is situated in a private game reserve which is renowned for good game viewing.
The lodge has five luxury safari tents perched high on thatched platforms at "tree top" level, joined by raised walkways and offering spectacular views over the thickly-wooded valley. Each room has a private veranda where guests can sit and relax in privacy, and the rooms also boast air-conditioning, electricity, a bathroom with shower and a large double bed.
There is a swimming pool for use during the heat of the day and the lodge overlooks a small waterhole which attracts a procession of game. Activities include game drives during the day and after dark and guided bush walks.
DAYS 4 to 6
Enjoy the leisurely drive along the coast to PLETTENBERG BAY where, perched on a rocky headland with breathtaking views across the bay to the Tzitsikamma mountains is The Plettenberg, a wonderful owner-managed small hotel. Enjoy walks on the golden sands of the bay, swimming in the hotel’s heated swimming pools and, between July and November, possible sightings of dolphins and whales.
DAYS 7 to 9
There are some wonderful vistas along the Garden Route and you can stop to have a lovely lunch as you make your way towards GROOTBOS PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE on the coast near HERMANUS. Here the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean collide resulting in one of the richest and biologically diverse marine ecosystems on the planet. And on the land you will find the Cape fynbos whose delicate floral forms are contrasted by the gnarled and twisted branches of ancient Milkwood trees.
The Garden Lodge at Grootbos, is set amongst the flowering plants, birdlife and forests and offers walks on a deserted beach, horse riding, visits to penguins or Cape fur seal colonies and access to the southernmost point of Africa at Cape Aquilhas. Knowledgeable guides are there to make it come alive.
DAYS 10 to 12
Drive northwards passing through some lovely scenery and into the WINELANDS around FRANSCHHOEK.
In a beautiful position Mont Rochelle overlooks the vineyards with views across to the distant hills. There is an outdoor swimming pool, bar, a gym and spa, and a well-stocked wine cellar naturally! Al fresco lunches can be arranged at the private dam and there is plenty of walking in the area as well as trout fishing and wine tasting.
The restaurant has a colonial feel with an excellent menu and you will be spoilt for choice with all the other restaurants in Franschhoek which is considered to be the food and wine capital of South Africa.
It is only an hour's drive to the airport where you can return your hire car before commencing your journey home.
LONG HAUL FLIGHTS between the UK and Johannesburg/Cape Town can also be booked through us. The flight from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth is included in the cost.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit CAPE TOWN, extend your holiday for a further 3 days and enjoy the cosmopolitan vibes of this exciting city.
There is a guest house or hotel to suit all tastes, from the bustling Waterfront to chic Camps Bay.
Make sure you have sufficient time to stand on the top of Table Mountain, to visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, to see the penguins on Boulders Beach and to explore the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and around Cape Peninsular.
